Gegorius System (Olobiv Region)

8th planet

Bugan finally stepped foot off the drop pod and onto free soil. The Kio’tos had waited over a year onboard that cursed transport along with the others that had refused to serve a Zen’zat, and now they were back amongst real V’kit’no’sat again. Free V’kit’no’sat who answered to their own destiny, not that of Star Force or the Zak’de’ron.

They’d sent them all the way out to the Olobiv Region on the edge of the Star Force border, and here there was an alliance of 127 V’kit’no’sat systems calling themselves the Tem’drong. They’d accepted the Kio’tos’s request to dump Bugan and the others here, apparently in exchange for taking their own heretics off their hands. So as he walked away from the drop pod in a meandering line with the others following the telepathic beacon instructions, he saw another line of Brat’mar waiting nearby to board the drop pods once they were emptied, and there were hundreds landing all around seemingly in a hurry to make the exchange.

That’s was fine with Bugan, for he was in a hurry as well. A hurry to be free of the Star Force stench and begin building a future that would not see him a victim or slave of the Zak’de’ron…which was now a very real possibility, for Star Force had made it clear they would not defend any V’kit’no’sat system that hadn’t sworn allegiance to them.

“Look at those heretics,” the Kio’tos behind Bugan said, referring to the Brat’mar and not low enough to avoid their earshot.

Two of them stirred, throwing glances back towards the inferior race.

Enjoy your time here, while it lasts, a Brat’mar said telepathically, then the conversation was let go without any sparks as the Kio’tos walked on.

Do you think they mean an invasion? Bugan asked the others.

Possibly. Perhaps that’s why they want to leave.

Did we just end up in the war zone?

No, the eldest in the group said flatly. We were sent here because the Zak’de’ron haven’t touched it yet. If Star Force wanted us dead they’d just drop us on a tiny world and be done with it.

Then what were they referring to? Bugan pressed.

We will know when we encounter it, not before.

Bugan huffed, acknowledging the useless comment as they continued to walk to a station on the wide landing field where a Brat’mar in unusual clothing was waiting for them. The colors didn’t conform to V’kit’no’sat standards, nor what he knew of Brat’mar design for that matter, but he wasn’t going to ask as a warning sensation was telepathically triggered down the line to him and he passed it on.

Up ahead the Kio’tos had already stopped, and looked to be briefed one by one, then dismissed going up onto a Satu and heading in different directions. When Bugan got there he heard nothing from those ahead, but rather had a private telepathic conversation with the planet’s greeting party.

Work assignments, lodging, food, and other details, the Brat’mar said, telepathically passing him a small mental interface disc.
